DIY idea: lace dresses

Dolce&Gabbana lace dress
lace dresses you can find at Asos just click on the images

Since i put my eyes on Dolce&Gabbana spring 2011collection i fell in love with those cute lace dresses. Perfect for summer (worn with a sunkissed skin) the lace dress is a classic in a romantic, chic wardrobe. Spring crochet magazines are filled with patterns to make one of these but crafting one takes time and summer is already here! Lace fabrics can be expensive so a cheap alernative can be to use lace curtains or embroidered tablecloths as fabric. Don't even think to touch your grandma tablecloths embroidered with love (i know that grannies don't do this anymore, they wear miniskirts and botox!),have a look in your local market instead i'm sure you'll find what you're looking for.

An unusual DIY

http://media.topshop.com/wcsstore/TopShop/images/catalog/21O34YMUL_large.jpg

I was browsing Topshop and i've found this. Definitely an extreme DIY and, let me say it, a little bit weird! Maybe he won't be loquacious but i bet he won''t complain if you buy another pair of shoes :D
Maybe this is the reason why it's sold out!

Touches of Spring DIY

Shoes: Strutt for Asos
bag: Cinti
skirt:DIY

I'm seeking for spring colours and atmosphere. Today i would like to share with you a new DIY project that includes knitting .It's a flared, ruffled skirt.Even if seems complicated it's made with just purl stitch, the ruffle effect is done with a special yarn called Ondas.
You can find it googling ondas knit or ruffle yarn.
At first sight it looks like a normal yarn but when you open it's made of net.
Once it's opened you can start knitting it normally, you just have to insert your needle along the border of the net.
Confused?Don't worry,i found for you a step by step tutorial plus a pattern for a basic scarf.

Download

The skirt is made of 2 pieces sewn together, a front and a back. Every side it's basically a trapezium.

Start with 60 stitches (for a size UK 10,USA 6,euro 38) or 64 (for a size UK 14,USA 10,euro 42)
at the third row start decreasing.
decrease one stitch each side (at start and end)
continue decreasing as shown
decrease 1 stich every 2 rows (twice)
decrease 1 stitch every 4 rows (twice)
decrease 1 stitch every 6 rows(twice)
then continue till the desidered lenght

repeat all for the other side.
Sew the pieces together then sew a wide elastic band at the top.

If all this is confusing then just take a flared skirt from your wardrobe and follow its shape,it will be your pattern or use one of the tons of free patterns i found at this link

DIY crocheting designers pieces

xxxxxx

Spark checks in on Syjuco as she exhibits the "Counterfeit Crochet Project (Critique of a Political Economy)" at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Much of Syjuco's work deals with what she likes to call "improper ways of interfacing with capitalism" -- bootlegs, knockoffs, and otherwise reworked commodities, taking high-tech or luxury items and remaking them as low-tech and debased. She has used simple, cheap materials like foam core, contact paper, scrap wood, and glue to make cheap, non-functional replicas of expensive consumer goods like digital cameras, cell phones, and mp3 players.

These handmade designer pieces (that are really cute in my opinion ) are deconstructed mythes of fashion make us think at the importance we give to these accessories: we make them object of adoration. These are homemade counterfeits exibited ar Yerba Center for Arts and are by Stephanie Syjuco , visit her page.

Lady Wedge

Shoes of the season: Wedges!
Sofisticated or more casual, Wedges rule this fashion season.I've choosen an elegant pair with statement gold wedge and black suede upper with black straps

gold black wedge from H&M

and a 70s inspired pair with a very particular wedge crochet covered. The print remembers a missoni one.

wedges are from Mimao.es
